I can tell you what I've been doing (though there may be a button that will do all this for you somewhere I haven't found yet): If you want your image to fade to black, then have the next image come back from black (like a quick fade to nothing then back), you can select everything on the stage (if they are Symbols) and there's an option in the Properties box called Alpha. Make a keyframe where you want to start, and lower the Alpha a bit. Next frame, make also a keyframe, and lower the Alpha even more. Longer fades, more frames. The frame where you can't see the old pic anymore, select it and Edit>cut. Then wherever your next image is, set it on the Stage and select everything and change the Alpha again-- this time from low to high in each keyframe. Try this first with a background that doesn't change and a Symbol on the Stage to fade in and out, and test movie. I've been doing this with advertising banners for 3 days now-- looks so cool.
